Riding For A Cure: An Update of Neil’s Preparations

Participating in a cycling event is about more than physical fitness or personal challenge. It can also serve a greater purpose. For Neil Mylott, it’s about raising money and awareness for cancer research and support.

Neil is taking on the challenge of Tour de Cure’s “Signature Tour”, where riders cover over 1000km in 8 days, riding from Coffs Harbour to Noosa. This tremendous challenge is raising funds for Tour de Cure who fund ground-breaking cancer research projects and supports those impacted by cancer. Neil wants to be a part of this mission, fundraising to find a cure for cancer.

Neil’s fundraising efforts have been going well currently, he’s raised $9,261 (at the time of publishing) out of his goal of $12,000.

Preparing for such a challenge requires a lot of dedication and hard work. Neil has gradually increased his weekly cycling distance over the last 6 months and now covers 350-380 km per week. However, this is still a long way from 1000km, so Neil needs to build up his stamina and endurance to recover from back-to-back long-distance cycling days.

This is by far the biggest challenge I have ever taken on. In a normal month of riding, I would typically cover only around 800km, so doing more than this in a little over a week is a huge challenge to overcome.”

Apart from maintaining his physical health, Neil finds cycling to be a form of relaxation and relishes the feeling he gets after completing a training session.

Neil’s inspiration for cycling comes from his brother Brian, who suggested they participate in the Signature Tour together. Neil has also seen the impact of cancer on his family and friends, which further drives his motivation to raise funds and endure the 1000km ride.

“I think that almost everyone has probably had a cancer diagnosis in their family or with someone they know and has seen the devastating effects it can have on not only the patients but also their families and friends.”

At Stockwell International we are proud to support Neil’s fundraising efforts as a close friend and ally, for this is near and dear to our hearts.

Stockwell would like to dedicate this post to our founder, Brian, who we lost to cancer in 2021
