Stockwell International’s friend Neil Mylott takes on the Tour de Cure

He’s already conquered a Tour de France personal ride and now he’s taking on the Tour de Cure. Stockwell International is proud to support our close friend, Neil Mylott, as he takes on this incredible challenge in support of a cause that’s close to our company’s heart.

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with him to understand the challenge he’s taken on and his driving motivations.

Support Neil’s fundraising efforts on his Tour de Cure ride.

Firstly, what is Tour de Cure?

Tour de Cure’s mission is to cure cancer. Through inspirational cycling tours and events across Australia, they fund the boldest research, the most talented scientists and the pioneering cancer projects that they believe have the greatest potential impact to find a cure for cancer.

What is the challenge you’re taking on?

In March 2023, I will be cycling from Coffs Harbour to Noosa with Tour de Cure to raise money for vital cancer research, support, and prevention projects. The 8-day ride will cover 1,020km across the scenic coastline.

Have you been riding for long? Will this be your first major, challenging ride?

I have been riding since 2010. My interest in cycling has grown every year since then. I’ve done a few Gran Fondos, and my longest ride ever has been 160km. In 2019, I travelled to the French Alps, riding up some of the iconic climbs often featured in the Tour de France. I’ve never done a multi-day event like this before, so it’s definitely going to be a big challenge!

What was your driving force in signing up to do Tour de Cure? More than just a challenging bike ride?

I was inspired to sign up for Tour de Cure’s Signature Tour by my brother. He cycles as well and has ridden in previous, shorter Tour de Cure fundraising events. All of his accounts of his experiences with Tour de Cure have been so positive and inspirational, so when he suggested we both sign up for this tour, I didn’t hesitate.

Confronting a big personal physical challenge like this will hopefully motivate and inspire people to donate to what I think is a seriously worthy cause. I think cancer is something that everyone can relate to because we’re all affected by it in some way.

It’s a cause that’s especially important to me because I’ve lost family, friends, and clients to cancer. It’s also because of the pain and suffering it causes, both in terms of the treatments, and for those in their end-of-life stages.

How is Stockwell International supporting you on your ride? What’s your connection back to the company?

Stockwell International were interested in getting involved because of the link with their founder Brian Stockwell. Brian was also a keen cyclist, who lost his battle with cancer in 2021, and they wanted to remember and honour his memory by sponsoring me on this challenge.

I’ve been a family friend of the Stockwell’s for around 35 years now, and I’m very honoured and proud to be partnering with them on this journey. Along with family members and close friends lost, a big part of this Tour for me will be riding in memory of Brian.

With the funds raised by the ride, what impact do you hope to see?

Tour de Cure has already backed 647 cancer projects, with 75 major cancer breakthroughs funded. I’d like to see these numbers continue to rise, so that we get better and better at detecting, treating, and curing cancers, as well as supporting those living with cancer.

I think I’m not alone in saying that I’d like to see an end to the immeasurable suffering that these diseases cause.

How can people support you as you take on this challenge?

Please help me help others by making a donation through my fundraising page. It only takes a minute, and any money you give will help to find a cure and change the lives of patients impacted by cancer.
