Severe Storm hits Brisbane Airport 

Brisbane Airport has copped the brunt of a severe thunderstorm, with a ‘brief’ tornado confirmed and more than 90mm of rain in two hours.

The Bureau confirmed reports of the tornado, which hit about 10am as an intense storm passed through, with 38mm of rain in just 15 minutes.

A Brisbane Airport spokeswoman said aircraft would remain down until it is safe and there has been damage at the international terminal.

Large cargo containers have been blown across the runway and sheets of metal lifted into the air.

The extent of the damage is currently unknown, there have been no reports of anyone injured at this stage.

Roads into the international terminal are hard to access due to debris.

There are no reports of people injured at this stage.

The storm is now moving over the Moreton Bay region.

At 10.50am, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning for people in the Brisbane City council area for an isolated severe thunderstorm in eastern Brisbane, with giant hail possible.
