Network Disruptions – 5PM5 Wagon Failure

Dear Customers,

Please see below report from Linfox’s National Manager of Rail and Coastal Network;

Linfox would like to advise that the Perth-Melbourne train 5PM5 that came to a halt between Ooldea and Immarna (SA) on 19/12/20 was discovered to have a major wagon defect. Reports from the incident site indicates that there has been significant damage to the track (approximately two kilometres).

ATRC have reported significantly more damage to the track than originally anticipated which will adversely impact the reopening of the mainline. At this stage forecast restoration of the mainline is Monday evening 21/12.

Empty Container Depot Congestion

Dear Customers,

Stockwell International has been advised that Brisbane and Melbourne empty container congestion has become critical, and the option to redirect containers is limited. Yards have limited availability to evacuate empty containers due to the restrictions implemented by container terminals in an effort to reduce the high yard density.

Due to the severity of the situation, empty container depots have no choice but to intermittently stop acceptance of empty containers.

However, Stockwell International has been advised today by shipping line Maersk that after the successful evacuation of thousands of surplus containers at our Sydney depots over the weekend, they are able to reopen empty container returns at designated Sydney depots for 40DRY and 40HDRY containers.

As a result of this significant improvement  the current detention exemption for 40DRY/ 40HDRY containers is suspended effective from 23.59h on the 21st December 2020.

Stockwell International is monitoring the situation closely, we will endeavour to update you accordingly and appreciate your cooperation.
