Stockwell International News Alert 27th January 2022

Temporary Import Container Storage Charges

Effective January 31, 2022, the Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) is implementing a temporary storage charge called Extended Dwell Time Fee on all import loaded containers.

In order to encourage increased velocity of long dwell import containers, this fee (Extended Dwell Time Fee) will apply on a temporary basis to all loaded import containers, in addition to existing port and line demurrage tariff fees:

(1) No charges for free time (free time being defined as five days commencing after a container is available for delivery)
(2) $45 per day for the next five days of storage thereafter (days 6-10)
(3) $70 per day for the next five days of storage thereafter (days 11-15)
(4) $110 per day for the next five days of storage thereafter (days 16-20)
(5) $160 per day for any days thereafter

The importer of record in the shipping documents will be responsible for paying or arranging payment of the Extended Dwell Time Fee.

If the Extended Dwell Time Fee is not paid within 45 minutes of a confirmed appointment, the appointment will be automatically cancelled in the LBCT appointment system. Waivers, refunds and appeals of the Extended Dwell Time Fee will be handled in accordance with the policies on the LBCTs website.

Please note that empty containers and export loaded containers will not be subject to the Extended Dwell Time Fee.

REMINDER: CHINESE NEW YEAR CLOSURES

In the lead-up to the Chinese New Year, Stockwell International would like to remind you of the warehouse and office closures as a result of this holiday.

Stockwells suggests that you contact your suppliers and confirm their shutdown dates. Even though the actual holiday doesn’t start until roughly 31stJanuary, it is common for factories to close 7-10 days in advance, this also includes truck drivers.

Following the holiday, it is important to allow for time for workers and truck drivers to travel back to work. In the past, this period has also seen some workers change jobs so allowing this extra time will allow factories to recruit, train and ramp up production.

Stockwell International is dedicated to ensuring the most seamless experience during this period and wish to prepare you as much as possible. If you have any further questions about the Chinese New Year or any other enquiries, please contact our helpful staff at [email protected] or calling 1300 786 468.

NEWS: How Supply Chain Chaos and Sky-High Costs Could Last Until 2023

Supply chain woes and port congestion are now getting attention at the central-bank level, given their effects on inflation. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell recently lamented, “It is frustrating to see the bottlenecks and supply chain problems not getting better. In fact … [they are] apparently getting worse.”

Powell foresees supply chain woes, “continuing into next year, probably, and holding up inflation longer than we thought.”

But could shipping logjams last even longer, into 2023, propping up inflation even longer than central bankers expect?

Industry experts speaking to American Shipper, as well as other market players and analysts, are increasingly talking about a scenario in which high ocean shipping costs and congestion could persist throughout next year, if not into the following year.
