Container Vessel Runs Aground in Suez Canal

Dear Customers,

As many are already aware, yesterday cargo vessel Ever Given, a nearly 200-foot-wide and 1,300-foot-long ship had accidentally caused a logjam in the Suez Canal, when it accidentally run aground in one of the worlds most important trade routes, that directly connects Europe to Asia.

The ship ran aground after 40-knot winds and a sandstorm caused low visibility and poor navigation, resulting in the ship unable to steer the Suez Canal Authority said in a statement.

The approximate rate of the backlog is about 50 vessels a day with approx 30 vessels already waiting and any delays leading to re-routings will add 15 days to the voyage, they added.

Tugboats are currently working to free the vessel, with no progress updates currently available.

The knock-on effects of this situation will cause delays world-wide. We do not currently know the full extent of the stoppages and we will work closely with the appropriate authorities to try to keep delays to a minimum.
