Stockwell International News Alert 17th March 2022

Italian Haulage Suspension of Services Over Rising Fuel Costs

Stockwell International have received information regarding the suspension of services in Italy.

Starting Monday 14th March Italian Road Haulage companies have announced a possible suspension of services nationwide due to the sudden increase of fuel costs.

The Trade Union “Transportunito” announcement specifies that it is neither a strike nor a specific claim, but an initiative aimed at coordinating the demonstrations on the state of emergency in the logistic sector.
The increase in fuel prices, which have become constant in recent weeks, is putting the entire sector in serious jeopardy.

In addition to this possible suspension, there has been an announcement that from Saturday 19th March demonstrations will be held throughout Italy asking for Government intervention on this issue.

Stockwell International have received information regarding the recent Government announcement regarding the fuel excise taxes.

The Government announced that effective 11.59pm on Monday 14th March 2022 that fuel excise taxes on petrol would reduce by 25c per litre for the next three months.

At the same time the Government announced a reduction to Road User Charges (RUCs) for diesel vehicle. Unfortunately, the detail and implementation date regarding a change to RUC’s has not been confirmed, as a result we are unclear how these changes will be applied and administered.

Since the announcement Industry representatives (Transport New Zealand) have been working directly with government officials and the Minister and have recommended that an at-pump price reduction, such as that introduced for petrol, would be the most equitable solution for all users of diesel, and is much easier to administer for all parties.

Stockwell International will continue to keep you updated with any changes that are made due to this announcement.
