Jack Stockwell is helping Australian businesses thrive by connecting them with cutting-edge freight forwarding solutions and personalised service. He began his professional journey with us as a Sales Executive in 2019, although his connection to the industry is lifelong. As the great nephew of our Founder, Brian Stockwell, he’s an integral part of Stockwells’ family-owned legacy.

Jack recently stepped into the role of National Sales Executive, in which he connects with businesses across Australia. In our latest interview with Jack, we explored his approach to customer service, keeping clients up to date with the shipping landscape and what matters most to businesses today.

From field to freight

Before he was building relationships with Stockwells clients, he was building a presence in rugby league. His career as an athlete included playing for NRL teams Gold Coast Titans, St George Illawarra Dragons and Newcastle Knights.

In October of 2019, it came time to step into the family business. Jack was already skilled in excelling under pressure, collaboration and ensuring consistent quality – all traits that allowed him to thrive in the freight forwarding and logistics industry. Jack said his time in rugby league taught him the importance of engaging with local communities. 

“I learned how to talk to people. The whole time I was playing I also needed to engage with sponsors, fans, people at signing days and things like that. We got out into the community quite a bit as well.” 

Jack’s time in the NRL also influenced his communication style. He’s known for being direct and honest. Jack’s transparency results in trust amongst his clients and colleagues. 

“I have a direct approach. That’s how we got things done in footy and I have transitioned that to my role in sales. Clients appreciate the honesty and sincerity that comes from this.”

Guiding a smooth onboarding process

As part of his role, Jack connects with Australian businesses looking for a trusted freight forwarder. Jack strives to create a seamless experience. By taking the time to understand their supply chain needs and keep them informed, he helps them hit the ground running. 

“I help bring in new businesses, Australia-wide. This includes organising onboarding with our new clients and helping them get set up in our system. I guide them through the start of their process with us to make sure it’s a seamless experience.

I want them to feel comfortable. They should feel like it’s a simple process. I want them to know someone’s always there to answer a question if they need it.” 

Helping clients navigate changing waters 

Jack employs an educational approach in his role as National Sales Executive. As a large company with a personalised feel, Stockwells’ clients range from first-time importers to established businesses. He helps clients understand the process of freight forwarding with Stockwells and keeps them up to date with any changes to the shipping landscape. 

“We get a wide range of businesses looking for our services including well established companies as well as first time importers. It’s often about educating people on the different processes and keeping them up to date within a constantly changing landscape. I just try to make that as simple as possible when bringing them on board by showing them what we have to offer.”

This commitment to keeping clients in the know continues throughout the Stockwells journey. 

“After clients are onboarded they’ll be assigned a customer service representative and key account manager who take over, but the education process still remains. For example, when we have a shipping update it’s the key account managers who pass these details forward to the clients. 

They’re kept up to date as soon as they join Stockwells and can also sign up to our news alerts. So, they are getting that continuous education.” 

Reducing costs without sacrificing quality 

Understanding what matters to Australian businesses is a key part of Jack’s approach. He knows that competitive pricing is important in today’s shipping landscape although he says that customer service is just as important.

His advice to businesses looking to switch freight forwarders? Find a trusted company such as Stockwells that is going to be available to you and knows your business inside out. Low upfront prices for low quality service can end up costing you wasted time, resources and trust amongst your customers. 

“Not everything is about finding the cheapest price. A lot of the time the cheapest service isn’t the best.
